The cruise season 2019 started at PTA with the Columbus of January 6 this year. With 2018 as record cruise year for Amsterdam (180 ships), 2019 looks different. The number of cruise ships for 2019 was 184 ships, but due to the introduction of the tourist tax as per the 1st of January 2019, both MSC Cruises and CMV cruise lines have moved their ships to Rotterdam. Therefore PTA cautiously starts with 162 ships this year. This number is expected to drop as PTA expects more shipping companies to evade Amsterdam.
The good news is that as many as 15 new ships will come to Amsterdam. A new record for PTA as a cruise terminal! The first Maiden call this year is on February 1. Mein Schiff 2 from Tui Cruises will dock at PTA from 07.00-24.00 hours. Mein Schiff 2 sails under the Maltese flag, is 316 meters long and offers space for about 2.000 passengers. After that 14 more Maiden calls will follow; ships that moor in Amsterdam for the first time and symbolically receive the key to the city by means of a Plaque & Key Ceremony.
